INNOVATIVE - COLLABORATIVE - INQUIRY.
In 2006 Bell Block School, along with Opunake, Merrilands and St Pius X schools embarked on a Ministry of Education E.H.S.A.S ( Enhancing High Standards Across Schools) contract which they "won" to look at Inquiry Learning. Senior staff from all schools went to Sydney, Australia to undertake the first of many Professional Development conferences and presentations that they would attend over the next four years.
Update: In Term 3, 2009 - representatives from all the schools in the project went to Melbourne, Australia for a week where they had further professional development and visit schools.
Instead of doing four major inquiries each year we have modified our programme to undertake three inquiries. There is a break in between each inquiry for teachers and children to explore ither avenues of interest.
